Beccles Lions Vice President Chris Lambert along with fellow members from the club presented a cheque for £2,000.00 to Lucy Goldspink, Haematological Malignancies Coordinator of the Sandra Chapman Centre at the James Paget University Hospital.
Beccles Lions Vice President Chris Lambert presents the £2,000 cheque to Lucy Goldspink of the Sandra Chapman Centre, along with Members of Beccles Lions and Staff from the Sandra Chapman Centre.
The Sandra Chapman Centre is a Day Centre providing treatment for people with Oncology and Haematology Disorders. Since its official opening in May 1992 around 50 to 60 patients attend the Centre each day for treatments such as Chemotherapy and Blood Transfusion.
Lucy thanked Beccles Lions for their generous donation and added “By using the Centre on a day care basis it has meant patients who previously had to stay in hospital for several days can now remain at home and in their community. Therefore all donations to the Centre are appreciated and is spent on the latest medical equipment and staff training, as well as developing the service we provide, along with improving the comfort of the patients and their relatives.”
Vice President Lion Chris Lambert said “We felt that the work done by the Sandra Chapman Centre is so necessary and valuable that we made it a specific project for the club and through the generous giving by the people of the Beccles and the surrounding community we were able to raise this amount and we are all very proud to present it to the Centre. It’s amazing the difference it makes to people’s lives by having the opportunity to use the Centre and it offers a real boost to the community.”
Speaking from first-hand experience Lion Keith Coomber, along with Vice President’s Wife Carolyn Lambert whom both have had cause to use the Centre added “The staff do really make you feel so relaxed and comfortable while you’re having your treatment. They are so dedicated and helpful, they are all truly fantastic.”
